Medical Editor, Scientific Innovation
Reports to: Supervising Director – Editorial, Scientific Innovation
The Medical Editor, Scientific Innovation (SI) is responsible for editing, revising, and producing a variety of documents in support of client and corporate content and deliverables. They will work independently to ensure accuracy, clarity, consistency, applicable guidelines, and style are implemented on all assigned projects. The ability to also work collaboratively within project cross-functional teams and be flexible to changing timelines is key to their success. Attention to detail is necessary, as well as a fundamental level of scientific aptitude and expert knowledge in grammar.
Essential functions:
- Edit all assigned projects to defined style and compliance guidelines or other applicable criteria
- Ensure accuracy of spelling, grammar, syntax, and abbreviations/acronyms; edit for clarity and strength of sentences as appropriate
- Ensure references are in AMA style, and proofread deliverables
- Gain familiarity with current healthcare industry trends, pharmaceutical practices, and regulatory requirements that affect medical writing/editing
- Verify details such as medical terminology, program and presenter information, and drug information against appropriate provided backup
- Edit documents, including tables and figures, for consistent formats; confirm all tables and figures are cited in text, and confirm footnotes are adequately defined
- Check current deliverable version against previous rounds’ versions to ensure edits have been implemented
- Adhere to editorial process; encourage adherence among team members as needed
- Work with cross-functional teams to incorporate changes to written materials
- Become familiar with client preferences by reviewing client style sheets before each job
- Use Office 365 for file sharing and version control
- Write nonscientific copy as needed
- Incorporate changes from reviews
Additional functions, as needed:
- Execute reference searches and Internet-based research
- Fact check documents, if assigned
- Create reference packs
- Provide cross-functional support as appropriate

Education and/or experience:
Bachelor’s degree required—English, journalism, or related field is preferred. Experience in scientific/medical editing and AMA style is a plus.
